Most Reverend Joseph E. Kurtz, Archbishop of Louisville, has promulgated a decree that establishes Saint Bernadette Catholic Church effective April 8, 2008.

Though our new parish is formally established as of this Tuesday, the day to day and month to month operations of the parish may not appear to change for most parishioners. On this day both Transfiguration Of Our Lord and Mother of Good Counsel parishes formally cease to operate as Church institutions.
The total assets of the two parishes become the assets of Saint Bernadette.

There is some important information to note:

• The good stewardship of our people makes it possible for us to retain the full staffs of both of our mother parishes. Each staff person remains in his or her office as before, with some adjustments to job descriptions.
• We will identify our two church campuses as Saint Bernadette North (the Goshen Church) and Saint Bernadette South (the Louisville Church). Please note that future church bulletins will reference the location of meetings and activities in this way.
• The weekend and weekday Mass schedule remain as before.
• Both parish offices will continue to operate as before. Staff will continue to work from the same offices as before though this could change in coming months as circumstances warrant it.
• Beginning April 8, 2008 any checks written to the church or invoices presented to the church should be addressed to Saint Bernadette.
• We anticipate that by July 1, 2008 we will convert to a new tithing envelope system. In the meantime please use the MGC and TOOL tithing envelopes previously provided.
• A new parish council has been established. It is made up of the eight members of the CORE Planning Group that was convened in 2007. They will in the coming months adopt a constitution that will provide for the future selection of new members.
• Most parish committees will continue to function as before unless otherwise decided. Over time we will be striving to merge the distinct committees of the former parishes. Please continue your stewardship of time and talent by continuing your personal services to the communities.
